The Challenges

In recent years, with the popularity of well-being products, many consumers are looking for healthy cosmetic products. In particular, contaminants such as sweat and dust may be mixed with cosmetic ingredients from hot weather and fine dust in the atmosphere. This makes the cosmetic product vulnerable to the spread of bacteria and fungi and lead to troublesome skin conditions possibly harmful to our health. Generally, polypropylene (PP) material is used for cosmetic containers that come in direct contact with cosmetic ingredients. However, more recently, many consumers demand harmless materials to the human body for cosmetic containers and provide antimicrobial ability to prevent invisible microbial growth because of the direct application to human skin.

The Solutions

LOTTE Chemical has developed antimicrobial evermoin PP that is capable of maintaining excellent sanitation ability, fungal growth reduction, and 99.9%1) rate of bacteria inhibition through the use of its own-developed antimicrobial agent.

starex® evermoin PP, ABF-6200 is strong against microbial growth without harming the human body, because of the absence of harmful substances such as organic compounds or nanoparticles. Thus, customer satisfaction is improved as it can be easily applied to a surface of puff or inside of the cosmetic product containers where bacteria can grow. In addition, its product performance maintainability and quality stability have been certified long lasting through the antimicrobial durability test in daily living. The evermoin antimicrobial material made by LOTTE Chemical has completed the acquisition of antimicrobial performance assessment in a number of nations. It is an excellent material that can be applicable to all living spaces such as electronic appliances, kitchen and bathroom products, and building materials, which require clean materials based on hygienic and safe quality.

1) The proliferation inhibition rate of 99.9% or higher refers to a case in which the inhibition effects keeps the number of surviving bacteria to fewer than 1,000 (1/1,000) after test specimens go through antibacterial treatment in an an artificial laboratory environment where the number of bacteria can multiply to 1,000,000 (cultivation conditions: 35℃, 90% RH and 24 hours). LOTTE Chemical conducted the test in accordance with the aforementioned laboratory environment and conditions, following JIS Z 2801 (or ISO 22196) test method, at the FITI Testing & Research Institute, and obtained the results in which the proliferation inhibition rate was 99.9% or higher.
