The Challenges

‘Light & Slim Design’ is a mega trend that dominates portable devices in recent years. For better portability, the push for lightweight and slim design sparked a wave of advances in materials solutions linked to mobile devices. Notebook PC is no exception, as manufacturers continue to seek new materials in both exterior and interior parts that can enable thin-wall design for the entire set width. The market need for high impact and high modulus materials continued in the Notebook PC market to achieve slim housing. In particular, along with high impact strength and high modulus, the market called for the feature of low anisotropy to ensure excellent moldability.

Ultra-slim Notebook PC exterior require the application of materials with high impact strength and high modulus. To achieve high modulus, Filler is usually added. But the addition of Filler is bound to lower the impact strength level. A new, innovative technology is needed to secure the two features at the same time.

The Solutions

Ultra-slim Notebook PC exterior require the application of materials with high impact strength and high modulus. To achieve high modulus, Filler is usually added. But the addition of Filler is bound to lower the impact strength level. A new, innovative technology is needed to secure the two features at the same time.

Utilizing its unique technology, LOTTE Chemical has developed and proposed INFINO® High Modulus / High Strength PC/ABS NH-1230, which meets the two mutually conflicting features -- high modulus and impact strength -- and also lowers anisotropy. The product adopts newly-developed filler system and impact system.

INFINO® High Modulus / High Strength PC/ABS NH-1230 introduces a new component in a way that maximizes the dispersibility of Rubber and Filler and enhances impact strength and Flexural Modulus (FM) by more than 50 percent. The series also has a top-notch material property balance along with excellent flowability and surface quality. In addition, the company adopted Hybrid Filler System, which combines an optimal set of Fillers. This lowered anisotropy, which in turn removes the occurrence of warpage. LOTTE Chemical improved production processes, secured the stability in adding new Filler and came up with new reliability tests with lower error rates, all of which combined to provide customer-oriented Technical Total Solutions.

LOTTE Chemical’s INFINO® High Modulus, High Strength PC/ABS NH-1230 has excellent material properties. In addition, the series is built on the improved production process and assessment system, which enhances productivity, lowers material/system costs and allows for thin- wall design freedom through excellent flowability.
