Technology Guide

This section introduces Lotte Chemical’s production and processing technology and processes for each plant.

Plant #3 > PC

PC is highly functional engineering plastic widely used for the exteriors of electronic products such as mobile phones, laptops, and monitors, and optical materials for LCD TVs, electronic information materials such as DVDs, automotive materials, and construction materials. This plant has adopted the AshiKasei Process developed by Japan’s AsagiKasei Chemical (AKC) Corporation. Whereas the PC process of other companies uses the solvent method based on the interfacial condensation polymerization reaction with bisphenol (BPA) and phosgene, the AsahiKasel Process uses the melting method based on ester exchange reaction with bisphenol and DPC (diphenylcarbonate). This plant does not use chemical substances (phosgene: carbon dioxide) hazardous to humans, and is designed for the next-generation eco-friendly process that uses carbon dioxide as a raw material. So it has the advantages of greenhouse gas reduction and safety.
