This section introduces Lotte Chemical’s production and processing technology and processes for each plant.

Plant #3 > BD - BD

The BD refining plant produces high-purity 1.3-butadiene through extractive distillation and refining process using mixed C4 produced in the ethylene plant as raw material, removing impurities through extractive distillation according to relative volatility compared with solvent. The remaining impurities are removed in the refining process. The 1,3-butadiene is used as raw material for synthetic rubber, and its byproduct -- C4 Raffinate-1 -- is used as raw material for the TBA plant.

01 first extractive distillation

As Mixed-C4 goes through the process of the first extractive distillation of butene, it is separated into the first top of the column.

02 second extractive distillation

As acetylene goes through the second extraction, it is extracted into the second EDC bottom of the column and transferred to the raw material gas in the succeeding process. The butadiene in the second EDC tower cleared of acetylene is transferred to the refining process.

03 BD refining stage

In the BD refining section, BD products are produced following the removal of impurities (MA and other impurities).
