Technology Guide

This section introduces Lotte Chemical’s production and processing technology and processes for each plant.

Plant #2 > PIA/PTA

PIA/PTA is produced with PX, catalyst, and acetic acid as raw materials. It is used as raw material not only for polyester fibers with excellent thermal resistance, insulation, mechanical strength, water resistance, and wear resistance but also for video and audio films and PET bottles closely related to our everyday life. It is used for industrial yarns as well.

■ Production process

lotte chemical

01 Oxidation Reaction Process

A process where the liquid phase prepared in the raw material mixing tank reacts with oxygen. (With its reaction heat, steam is produced. After the O2 reaction in the air, N2 is utilized as a pneumatic for air flow)

02  Solvent Refining Process

A process where the solvent (acetic acid) separated from the solid-liquid separation process is recovered.

03 Solid-Liquid Separation Process

A process where TA CAKE is separated into solid and solvent.

04 Drying Process

A process where moisture from the wet cake separated from the solid-liquid separation process is completely dried

05 Reduction Reaction Process

A process where impurities contained in CTA/CIA are converted into a water-soluble state (4-CBA p-Tol)

06 Solid-Liquid Separation Process

A process where TA CAKE is separated into solid and solvent (1st, 2nd)

07 Drying Process

A process where moisture from the wet cake separated in the solid-liquid separation process is completely dried
